Children Now offers underprivileged children between the ages of 8 and 12, the opportunity to experience a real summer holiday – an important part of a happy childhood. While they are having fun in nature, our young campers develop a sense of belonging and self-esteem as they make new friends. They acquire new values and knowledge that will help them build a better future for themselves. It is a unique experience that we are convinced the children will remember throughout their lifetime.
This year, our objective is to invite 200 children to the camps. The events will be held throughout the month of August at the Camp Keno in Quebec City and at the Camp Domaine Scout St-Louis-de-France in Trois-Rivières.
During their stay, the children will take part in a multitude of activities supervised by experienced camp leaders: swimming, rabaska, canoeing, mountain excursions, obstacle courses, nature hiking, camp fires, treasure hunts, water slides, and more. Of course, they will also benefit from three plentiful meals and snacks daily. Moreover, throughout their stay, the children will receive many gifts that they will be able to use all year long. Thanks to the help of our donors and sponsors, they will receive clothes, sleeping bags, books, soccer balls, sunscreen, bug spray, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste and more.
Children Now would not be able to offer these activities to underprivileged children without your help. Child poverty is a persistent problem in Canada: the child poverty rate exceeds 10% in all the provinces. Poverty affects more than one out of six children in the province of Quebec and further, one out of three in big cities such as Montreal and Quebec. The pleasure of seeing the sparkle in a child’s eyes and a smile on his face, in a life which does not always smile back, motivates us to work to improve the situation of underprivileged children on a daily basis. Sponsor these children and help us offer them a magnificent summer camp that meets their high expectations!
