A Merry Christmas for Children from Low Income Households in Montreal

This year, due to the pandemic, we made modifications to our annual Christmas Shows to ensure everyone’s safety. Rather than holding the event in a hotel’s ballroom as we usually do, this year, we went directly to the schools and turned their gymnasiums into Christmas wonderlands. Due to the safety implications of having hundreds of children in the same room during the pandemic, we instead held many shows over the course of multiple days so that everyone involved could enjoy Christmas in the safety of small groups.

In Montreal, the event took place on December 11th, 2020 at the St-Jean-Baptiste-de-LaSalle school. The event was held in the school theater, though due to higher risk in Montreal, the events were virtual so that children could participate while remaining in their respective classrooms. 2 interactive virtual events occurred with 8 classes participating each time.

During the interactive Christmas Show, the children aged between 4 and 8 years old had the opportunity to sing, dance, and of course, virtually meet Santa Claus, his reindeer and Mrs Claus. Meanwhile, during the show, Santa’s elves distributed Christmas gifts in the children’s locker rooms so that the children would have a wonderful surprise waiting for them after the show. The children received many gifts including warm clothing, mittens, hats, scarves, school supplies, toys and more. Moreover, in collaboration with the school caterers, we provided a delicious hot lunch to all the children.

While this event underwent many challenges and changes due to the pandemic, the event was, to our great happiness, a huge success. The children were delighted. We extend the warmest thank you to all of our donors, sponsors and volunteers who once again, allowed this event to take place.

Happy Holidays!
