With the COVID-19 pandemic impacting everyday life, we thank you for your continued support. At Children Now, we have been faced with new challenges and have been working tirelessly to continue serving our communities and those in need as best we can. The health and safety of the children and communities we aid remain paramount, and as such, we’ve made necessary modifications to our programming that we’d like to share with you.
UPCOMING Snow Camps 2021: As this has been a particularly difficult year for all, our objective is to double our efforts by having 150 underprivileged children participate in our snow camp this year. Camps are still unable to accommodate children over night, therefore we are once again partnering with day camps to provide a multiple day getaway for the children that have been sponsored. As we did for our summer camps, we will again be providing daily transit so that the children may return for multiple days, allowing them to live out their adventures as originally intended. The camps will take place at the Domaine Scout St-Louis-France on February 19 and 20 for the children of Quebec and February 26 and 27 for the children of Montreal. Children aged between 10 and 12 will take part in a multitude of activities such as tobogganing, snowshoeing, skating, ice labyrinthe, making snow castles, making campfires on the snow, identification of animal tracks, and more. Of course, they will also benefit from plentiful meals and snacks daily. Moreover, the children will receive many gifts including winter clothing: boots, hats, scarves, mittens, as well as sleeping bags, shampoo, soap, toothbrushes, books, games, and more.
Christmas Show 2020: We have made modifications to our annual Christmas Shows to ensure everyone’s safety. Rather than holding the event in a hotel’s ballroom as we usually do, this year, we are going directly to the schools and turning their gymnasiums into Christmas wonderlands. In prior years, the event would take place over two full days. However, due to the safety implications of having hundreds of children in the same room during the pandemic, we will instead hold many shows over the course of 4 days so that everyone involved can enjoy Christmas in the safety of small groups.
Summer Camp 2020: As summer camps are unable to accommodate children over night during this time, we are partnering with day camps to provide a multiple day getaway for the children that have been sponsored. To do that, we will be providing daily transit so that the children may return for multiple days, allowing them to live out their summer adventures as originally intended. The camps will take place during the first 2 weeks of August at the Domaine Scout St-Louis-France for the children of Montreal, Trois-Riviere and Quebec City. Children aged between 10 and 12 will take part in a multitude of activities supervised by experienced camp leaders: swimming, canoeing, mountain excursions, obstacle courses, nature hiking, treasure hunts, and more. Of course, they will also experience great meals and snacks daily. Moreover, throughout their stay, the children will receive many gifts that they will be able to use all summer long. Thanks to the generous help of our donors and sponsors, the gifts they will receive include; clothes, sleeping bags, books, sunscreen, bug spray, shampoo, toothbrushes, soccer balls, toothpaste and more.
Easter Party 2020: In accordance with the distancing rules implemented by the government to avoid further spread of the virus, we made adjustments to our annual Easter Party. Instead of bringing together 700 underprivileged children of Montreal and Quebec, we have coordinated directly with the Schools to bring Easter directly to them! As a result, instead of having 2 major parties, 1 for each city, we are organizing one at every participating school and early childhood center (CPE). On June 25th, 2020, we made history, we carried out our first Easter Party in the month of June at the CPE Passe-Partout and CPE Jardin Bleu in Quebec City. We look forward to sharing with you the photos and videos we captured of this dream day and what these children experienced! Given that the schools are in the process of adapting with how to best operate during a pandemic, we have decided to resume the Easter party in the months of September and October for the remaining schools of Montreal and Quebec. As for now, photos and videos of the Easter Party’s organized to date can be found on our website and Facebook page in the coming days! Stay tuned.
We are in uncharted waters. COVID-19 is present nearly everywhere, and our community is no exception. While we are all experiencing the economic and social challenges caused by the current pandemic, these challenges are felt even more pronounced in communities who already struggled socially and economically. This is why, we at Children Now have an important role to play by continuing operations to best serve our community and those in need. Will you join us?
